Aims & Objectives
The following initial aims of the Forum were adopted - with minor modifications - by this group:
ˇ To strengthen ties and build partnership working between statutory agencies, private
enterprise and voluntary and community groups in Shirehampton
ˇ To develop a strategic and multi agency approach to address youth and young people's
issues
ˇ To establish links and support the work of other local initiatives e.g. Lawrence Weston
Youth Centre, Southmead Youth Project etc
ˇ To establish a working structure with regular meetings
ˇ Establish good communication between sub group members
ˇ To be inclusive and fully representative of all sections of the Shirehampton Community
ˇ To be open to, and consult the residents and young people of Shirehampton
The Group also adopted the following additional aims:
ˇ To support the young people of our village by seeking safe forms of recreation and
stimulation
ˇ To encourage the inclusion of the young people of the village in the wider community
ˇ To seek resources to further the objectives of supporting youth including outside
agencies, financial grants, personnel and so on.
ˇ To promote ways for members of the community to be able to have direct input in
supporting young people
ˇ To look for suitable projects that will provide life skills, vision, training
opportunities and advice for youth needs
ˇ To be open to the participation of young people in the sub group e.g. reps from Portway
Community School
